Bands Forum gives Presentation to American Vistors
On Saturday the Newgate Cultural Hub hosted a large group of influential Amercian visitors from the Olive Tree Initiative based in California. The organisation which ‘aims for an experiential education that will allow students an understanding of the conflict and its narratives.’ visited as part of two week intensive itinerary to the UK and Ireland. Hosted by the University of Ulster’s Paul Arthur, and chaired by Brian Dougherty, the group heard a well-received presentation on the Londonderry Bands Forum from co-ordinator Derek Moore. This was followed by an question and answer panel discussion which also included LBF Chair Kenny McFarland and Sollus Productions co-ordinator James Kee. The extended discussion covered a range of issues pertinent to the PUL community in Londonderry offering both an outline of the historical challenges faced and also the innovative programmes we offer. Feed-back from the group was extremely positive as we discussed the impact that cultural activity can have on individual and community development as well as peace-building.
