Parent and Child Trip

Parent and Child Trip

Next weekend part of a community partnership idea, sees 76 parents and children going over to Glasgow to visit Ibrox Football Stadium and to train with Glasgow Rangers staff and take in a game during the visit.

The trip is being organised primarily through various individuals and groups from the Newbuilding’s community including both the local Pride of the Orange and Blue flute bands. It also involves members of other local bands and parents and children from the Londonderry Bands Forum schools’ education programme.

The trip with coincide with the culmination of the Londonderry Bands Forum “Dads and Lads” “Mums and Madams” initiative that has been running this year to foster bonding between fathers and sons, mothers and daughters from within the bands system and their communities.

Programmes have included music, dance and drama classes as well as numeracy and literacy events all hosted at the New Gate Arts and Culture Centre, throughout the year.

Coordinator of the LBF Derek Moore has praised the efforts from all involved with all elements of the programme and the great work achieved by the young people and the organisers of the trip.
