Schools Marching Band Presentation
In the last two week’s of June our Outreach Officer delivered a number of presentations to local primary schools as part of Derry and Strabane District Councils, Good Relations Teams, Cultural Quarter Programme.
We visited 12 different schools in the council area delivering our marching bands presentation to over 500 pupils aged from Primary 4 to Primary 7.
During our presentation pupils learned of the different types of marching bands and the instruments that they play and got the chance to see, play and hold some of the instruments. Pupils also got the chance to experience what it is like to play as part of a group as in each class we formed our own band/ orchestra. They got to play drums and a range of different percussion instruments while playing different rhythms and learning different elements in music. All the pupils enjoyed the chance to play the instruments, make music and experience how much fun playing an instrument can be.
Pupils were also shown several clips to show the wide variety of events bands take part in and the different music they can play. To finish the presentation, we gave pupils the chance to ask any questions they might have had about the bands, instruments and music.
The feedback from the schools, teachers and the pupils has been very positive with everyone stating that they learned a lot.
We would like to thank the schools for being so welcoming and having us in to deliver our presentation.
